Other gun products from Ballistol.

First is a high power barrel cleaner that removes all build up within the riflings and barrel.

Second is the Gunex 2000...a great all round lube for every part of your rifle. Can even be used as a pellet lube.

And third is the Klever quick-browning.....this is a great product for repairs to renavation of metal work on your rifle.

Another handy product is this.....Stichfrei protects for up to 8 hours from insect bites such as gnats ,mosquitoes and the like. It also has a UV-B FILTER that helps protect against sunburn.

This is a must have for shooters ,anglers and hikers alike.

More great gun care products from Ballistol

I have been reviewing the Ballistol range now for some time and i have now got hold of a few more of the gun care products. The first is a product for the repair of scratches or the renovation of old actions and barrels. Its called Klever quick-browning . How many times have you caught your rifle on a wall or barbed wire and have ended up scratching your barrel. If left untreated this will rust and end up damaging the metal forever. By using this product you are replacing protection to your rifle and prolonging its beauty and working life.

Clean the area to be treated with a mild detergent to remove oils and finger marks, then rub dry with kitchen towel. Using a small brush apply the browning to the scratch and allow to dry for 3-5 mins. Then wash the area with water to remove excess and pat lightly to dry . To finish ,spray on Ballistol oil or Gunex2000 to the whole barrel protecting everything with a waterproof coating and your done.See the pics for before and after shots. I have used an old Chinese action that i have had for some time ,going rusty in the back of my shed.

Ballistol review by Mike Smith

This is the Review that my No.1 gun has writen about the Ballistol care cloth.

This nearly 100 year old lubricant is hugely popular with me and should catch on fast. It’s Non-toxic and bio-degradable. I found this product to be great on my air arms s410 and gave a shine like nothing I have ever tried before. Ballistol is ideal for cleaning and maintaining every part of my rifle and a whole host of things I have tried. Together with a quite nice smell I think it Cleans and protect's wood, brings out the wood grain and luster and protects it against damage from humidity, dry air and insects. Effectively cleans, rejuvenates and water proofs smooth leathers. Protects against the impact of water, insects, fungi, boots, and holsters etc.

A friend of mine came over asked me if I could do anything with his rifle he had been shooting and it rained as he had forgot to clean his gun down when he got home there where rust spots all over the metal work. After calling him a very stupid boy four or five time was going to rub it down with a little wire wool and treat it in the manner of some bluing agent I bought a while ago for an old 177 I had when I was a youngster. But before I reached for it I thought I would try some Ballistol in a sachet I had not long since opened. By be-Jesus the Ballistol seamed to just absorb the light rust spots what a result I thought. Needless to say my pal was very great full for the once over on his rifle, it really did look great with a brand new shine and no rust spots.

ROAD & TRAIL - Lubricates autos, motorcycles, bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards, skis, & sports equipment. Protects all camping gear.

FIREARMS - Cleans & dissolves traces of copper, lead, brass, zinc, & tombac. Lubricates & protects firearms, lock, stock & barrel. Forms a film that protects against rust. Will never gum-up or harden. Ideal for pistol grips, & rifle stocks.
BLACK POWDER - Dissolves black powder residues. Emulsifies with water. Mildly alkaline, neutralizes acids.. Excellent patch lube.
LEATHER - Use on boots, shoes, gloves, holsters, slings, & saddles. Protects leather against water. Keeps leather soft & pliable, will darken lighter colors. Do not use on suede.
KNIVES & TOOLS - Lubricates, cleans, & protects metal, plastic, rubber, & wood. Outstanding penetrating oil, creeps into the finest cracks, loosens nuts & bolts. Also use as a cutting/boring oil (20:1).
MARINE - Use in motor compartments, on joints, links, wire pulls, & around battery terminals. Protects electrical contacts. Beautifies faded gel coats. Lubricates zippers, push buttons, & winches. Great for fishing rods, reels, & tackle. Protects Aluminum, prevents pitting.

I highly recommend this product it has a great many uses and not just on rifles

Advice on Gaining shooting permission

In essence, gaining shooting permission is asking someone you may have never met, for permission onto his/her land with a gun to control their vermin or game.
Think about what you would look for in a person asking you the same thing. With years of experience of successfully gaining shooting permission, here are few useful tips.
In general, you will NOT gain shooting permission:
• By posting ‘permission required’ on internet forums
• By writing letters (sometimes works, but with low success rate)
• By sending emails
Actions that may help you gain permission are:
• Getting out there and looking at what is going on, for instance:
1. Are there crops being hammered by pigeons or rabbits
2. Are there playing fields/golf courses etc overrun with rabbits?
3. Are farmers complaining about increasing fox numbers and attacks?
• Knocking on doors, or speaking to the people responsible for the land in question. This way the person gets to meet you, and is able form an opinion of your character, there and then. It is also harder for them to refuse you face to face than it is to throw another letter in the bin.
• Joining a club, or ‘networking’ with like minded local people
• Socialise, track down the landowners or farmers in their local and mingle
• Once you get into the dialogue, find out exactly what they are looking for and make sure you cover the “do’s and don’ts”
• Contact your local keeper and ask him if he needs any beaters, and then stick with it, be punctual and polite. Once you are known you may well be rewarded.
Once you have gained permission:
• Look after it, there may well be someone like you, just waiting for you to mess up so they can take over.
• Use your common sense, don’t leave gates open or drop litter and always pick up your empties.
• Don’t shoot anything you haven't the authority to shoot.
• Get a decent map and make sure you know the boundaries, footpaths, etc.
• Look after your host (farmer, landowner etc), find out what they like to drink. Buy them a bottle at Christmas time. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just a thank you.

The first impression I got from this small packet was how much it resembled a handy wipe, small and compact, so its easily slipped into your pocket or carried in your rifle case.

The impregnated cloth is 9x4 inch and as you open the packet the first thing you notice is the strong smell (likened to pernod), but this does get milder the longer it is in contact with air.
The oil itself has a light viscosity and will easily seep into the grain of your stock, the hinge bolts and other moving parts of your rifle.Over time all oils go clagy and thick, loosing there ability to lubricate and protect. This can ,and will cause problems inside the action of your rifle. This process is called "resnification" and it happens to all oils.Ballistol however will never resnifiy, it has no use by date and it never ages. The care cloth does the job of cleaning ,protecting and lubricating all in one application, saving you time and money with not having to buy gun oil, stock cleaner and other product to maintain your pride and joy.

I used the care cloth on my hw80k and the results were fantastic. Using the cloth to apply a thin coat of ballistol to the whole of my rifle, stock, action ,barrel and scope, paying particular attention to the barrel hinge bolt and the factory oiled stock. There's not really any need to strip everything down (unless you are doing a total clean-out) because the ballistol oil is thin enough to get into the important running parts of your rifle, lubricating and protecting them .

The cleaning qualities of ballistol are amazing, removing finger prints off the blued metal of your rifle and also removing built up dirt, left by sweat and oils from your hands and cheek. So one application will clean, lubricate, protect from the rain and damp that will inevitably lead to rust.
When you have applied the care cloth to your rifle, I suggest you use a microfiber cloth to buff off the excess oil. The reason for the microfiber cloth is two fold : it is lint free and as you wipe off the oil it is absorbed by the microfiber cloth, leaving you with a oiled cloth for re-applying the oil every time you polish your rifle.

For a more direct application of oil, i.e. hinge blots sling swivels and the trigger block, use the 50ml spray can. With this you can put the oil into the hard to reach places as well as topping up your buffing cloth. I also spray a light coating on the inside of my rifle case so when I put my rifle back I am returning it to a protected environment.

In conclusion:I think that Ballistol is a must for every user of air rifles, rim fire rifles and shotguns. You can replace many other oils and polishes with just one product and in my book saving money is a bonus. Ballistol is safe to use on many jobs, it is non toxic, bio-degradable and environmentally friendly and best of all it isn't made using petroleum based products like ALL other oils are.
